Description

AppsUpdater is useful when Mac apps come from different places: some from the App Store, some from developer websites, some through Sparkle, Microsoft AutoUpdate, Homebrew Cask, DMG/ZIP links or third-party catalogs. Instead of checking dozens of websites by hand, the app brings update status into one list and shows a saved library snapshot first while fresh checks continue in the background.

Version 1.2.4 adds a safe Update All Official workflow. Before anything starts, AppsUpdater shows a review plan, queues only ready updates from official sources, and explains why manual, third-party, or incomplete routes are skipped.

AppsUpdater does not try to replace the App Store. It helps you understand the real state of installed apps, choose a source, and follow a clear update path. Version 1.2.4 confirms installed Mac App Store versions more accurately, fixes duplicate and prematurely hidden apps, speeds up scanning, and makes long-running downloads, helper operations, and local database recovery more reliable.

Basic use remains free: monitoring installed apps, checking updates, app cards, download history, ignored versions, library export and manual download/open workflows. Premium is for people who want less manual work and support AppsUpdater development.

Privacy

AppsUpdater stores working data locally on the Mac. The anonymous supporterId is created by the app, stored in Keychain and used only to check Premium status; it does not contain an email address, name, phone number or payment data. The qBittorrent Web UI password is stored in Keychain. Completed download history is stored locally in Application Support. TelemetryDeck is used only for aggregate product events; the app does not send payment data, raw error text, app names, bundle IDs, URLs, IDFA, ad attribution, location or cross-site identifiers.

Security and trust

AppsUpdater is distributed as a macOS app signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple. This means the build is signed by the developer, checked through Apple notarization and passes the standard Gatekeeper check when launched.

AppsUpdater updates are delivered through Sparkle: the app checks the official appcast, downloads the new version and verifies the update signature before installation.

Premium payments happen only on the App Plant website and through the payment provider. AppsUpdater does not accept payments inside the app, does not open a payment WebView, does not store bank card data and does not process crypto transactions. Payment is linked to the app through an anonymous supporter_id that does not contain an email address, name, phone number or payment data.

Known limitations and FAQ

Why does AppsUpdater require macOS 14 or newer?

AppsUpdater uses modern macOS capabilities, SwiftUI, Swift Concurrency, Sparkle and system APIs for installed apps, background operation, the helper service and App Store routes. Supporting macOS 14+ keeps the app more stable and avoids extra workaround code for older systems.

Why does the App Store sometimes open externally?

AppsUpdater tries to check and start updates for App Store apps directly, but Mac App Store behavior depends on macOS system services, the user's account, the storefront region and the availability of a specific app. If the automatic route is unavailable or macOS does not allow installation to finish inside the app, AppsUpdater opens the official App Store page so the user can complete the update through the safe system flow.

What does the privileged helper do?

The privileged helper is used only for narrow Premium scenarios where macOS requires administrator rights: installing a staged .pkg, replacing a downloaded .app, restoring an App Store receipt, reindexing through Spotlight/LaunchServices, rollback and cleaning AppsUpdater staging files.

The helper is not a general-purpose root tool. It runs only after one-time confirmation by the user in macOS, accepts only files from AppsUpdater-controlled temporary folders and checks the bundle id, app type and allowed installation folders before any action.

Why are not all updates installed automatically?

macOS apps come from different sources and follow different installation rules. The App Store, Sparkle, .dmg, .zip, .pkg, Homebrew Cask, appstorrent and direct links all work differently. AppsUpdater chooses the most reliable available route: verify the source, download the file, open the installer, send a magnet link to qBittorrent or, when possible and allowed by Premium settings, perform an automatic installation.

What happens to payment data?

Payment data does not enter the app. For card or SBP payments, the user goes to a YooKassa page. For crypto payments, the transaction is handled through the payment service and a public address. App Plant may store the amount, payment status, payment id, order id and email if the user provided one for notifications. AppsUpdater receives only the Premium status for a supporter_id.
